Organochlorine Compounds in Beached Plastics and Marine Organisms

چکیده

Here we compare bioaccumulation factors in marine organisms to partition ratios debris for dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane and polychlorinated biphenyls. Both organochlorines are synthetic persistent organic pollutants emitted into the environment since beginning of last century approximately equal amounts. Their vast use dispersion have resulted similar median concentrations two some pelagic organisms, namely liver muscle tissue fish. Molluscs, on other hand, show higher uptake PCBs (median = 2.34 ng/g) than DDTs 1.70 ng/g), probably reflecting more localized conditions. We found that can be several orders magnitude ratios. For instance, different matrices fish, birds, mammals between one four those debris, when lipid-normalized; or up measured as wet-weight. But, molluscs, bioaccumulation/partition equals unity, which agrees with previous studies using passive samplers. Future research should focus reducing sources uncertainty by 1) homogenization chemical procedures; 2) better assessment equilibrium water polymers environmental conditions; 3) (multi)polymer samplers aimed at mimicking specific living tissues.

Biomedical Compounds from Marine organisms

The Ocean, which is called the ‘mother of origin of life’, is also the source of structurally unique natural products that are mainly accumulated in living organisms. Several of these compounds show pharmacological activities and are helpful for the invention and discovery of bioactive compounds, primarily for deadly diseases like cancer, acquired immuno-deficiency syndrome (AIDS), arthritis, e...

Biologically active compounds from marine organisms.

During the past 30 to 40 years, numerous novel compounds have been isolated from marine organisms and many of these have been reported to have biological activities, some of which are of interest from the point of view of potential drug development. On the other hand, some of the compounds pose potential risks to human health. In this latter category are the paralytic, diarrhetic and amnesic sh...

Screening for Anti-Cancer Compounds in Marine Organisms in Oman.

OBJECTIVES Marine organisms are a rich source of bioactive molecules with potential applications in medicine, biotechnology and industry; however, few bioactive compounds have been isolated from organisms inhabiting the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. This study aimed to isolate and screen the anti-cancer activity of compounds and extracts from 40 natural products of marine organisms collect...

Anti-photoaging and Photoprotective Compounds Derived from Marine Organisms

Marine organisms form a prominent component of the oceanic population, which significantly contribute in the production of cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical molecules with biologically efficient moieties. In addition to the molecules of various biological activities like anti-bacterial, anti-cancerous, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative etc., these organisms also produce potential photoprotect...

Plastics in the Marine Environment

“If all the plastic had been made with oxo-biodegradable technology there would be no ocean plastic garbage patches. ” In the 2012 study published in the Marine Pollution Bulletin “Occurrence of micro-plastics in gastrointestinal tracts of pelagic and demersal fish from the English Channel” it was shown that the majority of plastic particles consumed by the fish were rayon (57.8%) and polyester...
